The Declaration of Independence 1776 Thomas Jefferson rote a document to the British or independence from Great Britain. “The struggle for independence-the American Revolution-had begun”. The document changed the focus of the war. "The Declaration announces America's knew status." The colonies were now announced as America.
Declaratory Act 1776 The act was meant to declare that the British parliaments had the same authority just like in Great Britain as in America. As a result, the colonists ignored the act and the British parliament got frustrated. The parliament relized that they don't have power over the colonists. The British just wanted to afirm their power over the colonists.
Proclamation of 1763 It’s the result of the 7 years war.“Helped remove a source of conflict with the Native Americans.”But it put Britain in debt because of not having the land to make the money back from the war. The proclamation said that the colonists couldn’t settle land past the Appalachians.It made the colonists think that the British limited their freedom of movement.
Sugar Act, 1764 War debt, the colonists were smuggling sugar. The act helped to pay off Great Britain’s debt. The act said soldiers could confiscate things without going to court if they thought it was smuggled. “As British citizens, colonists argued, they had a right to a trial by jury and to be viewed as innocent until proved guilty, as stated in British law.”
Quartering Act ,1765 The act made the colonists have to house and supply food to the British soldiers. The quartering act also made the colonists pay for the barracks for the soldiers. As a result, the colonists protested the act just like the rest of the coercive acts. The act was in action until the colonists have payed for all of the ruined tea. The act was passed in 1768.
Stamp Act ,1765 The British taxed all printed goods. As a result, the Americans mobbed and took physical actions. "The colonists argued that only their own assemblies could tax them." But the assembly passed a resolution.
Boston Massacre 1770 It was caused by colonists throwing rocks, snowballs, and food at British soldiers outside of a door. As a result, "one of the soldiers was knocked down and the nervous redcoats did fire." Crispus Attucks was the first person that got killed out of 5 people." The Boston massacre led colonists to call for a stronger boycotts of British goods." Colonial leaders used this act for propaganda to turn more colonists on their side against the British.
Tea Act 1773 The British taxed the tea and was made to reduce the large amount of tea held by the British east india company to oppose their debt .“ It gave the company nearly total control of the market for tea in the colonies". “Colonial merchants called for a new boycott.” That removed some of the taxes on tea, but not all of them. But then the colonists don’t want to be told what type of tea they can buy, so they got angry. Colonial merchants called for a new boycott.
Intolerable Acts 1774 The Intolerable Acts were meants to punish the colonists for the act of the Boston Tea Party. “When News of the Boston Tea Party reached London, King George 3rd realized that Britain was losing control of the colonies”. As a result, the intolerable acts were created just for that reason. The punishments within the act were called the coercive acts. One of the coercive acts are, he Boston Harbor being shut down until they have payed for all of the ruined tea.
Battle of Bunker Hill 1775 This was the first major battle of the revolutionary war.“The Americans opened fire, forcing the British to retreat.” As a result, the British came back with twice as much soldiers than last time. Then the Americans ran out of ammo and gunpowder. So they were forced to retreat. So this battle was a British victory.
Boston Tea Party 1773 Colonists dressed up as indians and they threw tea off of three boats into the Boston Harbor.As a result, colonists gathered around and began to celebrate. The British reacted as we either master them or totally leave them for themselves.
The French and Indian War started ,1763 The French and Indian war began when England and France both attempted to claim land in the Ohio River Valley. As a result, the French and English battled over this territory for nine years. The war ended in 1763 with the Treaty of Paris. Because of that, the French were forced, “to give Canada and most of its lands east of the Mississippi River to Great Britain.” The British Parliament then passed the Proclamation of 1763.
