jan 3, 1763 - The French and Indian War started ,1763 The French and Indian war began when England and France both attempted to claim land in the Ohio River Valley. As a result, the French and English battled over this territory for nine years. The war ended in 1763 with the Treaty of Paris. Because of that, the French were forced, “to give Canada and most of its lands east of the Mississippi River to Great Britain.” The British Parliament then passed the Proclamation of 1763.
