-Short info: Oscar Wilde was an Irish poet, playwright and author. In his well-known (and only) novel, ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’ (1890), his position as a spokesman for aestheticism is included very clearly.
-What an artist should be according to Wilde: The artist shouldn’t be concerned with morals and ethics (useful things), he should only focus on creating beautiful things (useless); aestheticism. Art should only be ‘for art’s sake’. (However, someone who makes moral ‘art’ can be forgiven for this as long as he doesn’t admire it.)
