The Society for Human Rights is founded by Henry Gerber. This Chicago org is the first ever gay rights organization!
The Mattachine Society is founded by activist Harry Hay. This gay rights group composed of gay men (who called themselves homophiles) advocated for social acceptance of gay people.
Daughters of Bilitis, the first lesbian rights org, is made in San Francisco.
Illinois decriminalized homosexuality (becoming the first of all the states to do so)
