Thomas Jefferson

Hi folks! As indicated by the title, this is a timeline on Thomas Jefferson's life. As you can see, the timeline is still under construction, but by the time I finish I hope to include all if not most of his manuscripts and various world events taking place during his time. The purpose of this timeline, as is the purpose of most timelines, is to provide a level of context to the various events taking place around Jefferson to help us better understand some of the actions he took or some of the writings he wrote from a more objective position.

Most of my chronological info is coming from the two following websites: https://www.monticello.org/site/jefferson/timeline-jeffersons-life and http://www.sparknotes.com/biography/jefferson/timeline/. I understand that there is a lack of credibility in just using two sources, but time is a luxury that I don't have much of. However, if I find a discrepancy in any of the given dates, I do dig into more [credible] resources to find the proper date. If you find a discrepancy in any of the given dates, or if there are any important dates that I've missed, please don't hesitate to comment on here and I'll look into it.

I hope that by viewing this timeline you folks will gain a better and/or a more objective understanding of this Founding Father, and I hope you folks enjoy the information being shared. I am by no means a professor, nor am I an expert on Thomas Jefferson. Please do not take me at my word. Research all the information given on this timeline to help you build your own opinions about the man.

To help you navigate through the various events happening in this man's life, I'm color-coding and organizing each event according to its nature. Personal events are color-coded as blue and are placed above the timeline. The darkest shade indicates less significant events. The lighter shade indicates people in Jefferson's personal life. The lightest shade indicates very significant or notable events in Jefferson's personal life. (Note, "significant' does not refer to "importance". In this case, "significant" refers to the impact it has on Jefferson's character. E.G. "Martha Wayles Skelton" is highlighted a lighter shade than "fire at Shadwell residence" because it is recorded that following Martha's death, Jefferson experiences a period of despondency and deep depression. As for the "fire at Shadwell", as far as I know, there is no evidence that it greatly impacts Jefferson's character; therefore, it is "less significant" and is subsequently shaded darker than "Martha Wayles Skelton.")
Public, world, and national events are color-coded as green, orange, and yellow respectively and are placed below the timeline. To clarify, it should be noted that "public" refers to public events that involve or pertain to Jefferson.
All manuscripts are color-coded as white

Thanks for checking out my timeline! Please Enjoy!
