led the transcendentalist movement
stressing the needs of the individual.
With his renown, he lectured across the
country sharing his contemporary philosophies.
Publishing his most famous lectures in Society and
Solitude, Emerson argued for a balance between
individuals and society. Making Christianity look
outdated, Emerson presented a
modern philosophy more in line with
the democratic values of the nation.
