*Mexican American War*
The war was a response to the annexation
of Texas. There was a dispute over the Mexico
-Texas border and the selling of the California
and New Mexico territories. Violence on the
border justified war for Polk. However, the
Whig party and abolitionists opposed it. (apr 25, 1846 – feb 2, 1848)
