What if Texas Joined the British Empire?

A timeline in which Henry Clay, Whig Candidate in the 1844 United States Election, becomes president in place of James K. Polk, leaving the young Republic of Texas with few options save for the British Empire to turn to for aid. Thus, Texas joins the British Empire.
