The Great Britain requested the United States and France to collaborate to form an international patrol for controlling the trade. However, the U.S declined, but the idea formed the basis of many later operations to eradicate the problem. Furthermore, the year was followed by more developments in other regions, including the abolition of the apprentice system in the West Indies, whereby slaves achieved their freedom immediately . Additionally, the period witnessed growing calls for states to abolish the trade.
