The Suez Canal brought about an easier route for trade. Before the Suez Canal was built, European trading countries had to go around Cape Horn in order to get to the Middle East for trading purposes. The Suez Canal made trade much easier as quicker trips to the Middle East made more profit. However, the project was expensive and Egypt could not pay for it so they were seized by Britain. Although the Suez Canal was a major help in trading, it harmed Egypt drastically in the long run.
