1712: Thomas Newcomen invented the first steam engine.
1764: James Hargreaves invented the spinning jenny. It made the production of cloth faster.
1769: James Watt invents a new design for the steam engine to make the machine more efficient.
1794: Eli Whitney creates the cotton gin which is a tool that separates the cotton fibre from the seeds.
1844: Samuel Morse made the telegraph. His invention allowed messages to be sent over long distances through a wire.
1846: Elias Howe invented the sewing machine which allowed clothes to be made in factories at a faster rate.
1853: Elisha Otis invented the safety brake for elevators. This made people less worried when using elevators in buildings.
1855: Henry Bessemer invents a process for producing steel out of the iron. This method led to the growth of cities.
1866: Alfred Nobel invents the dynamite which is a safer way to blast holes in mountains and clear paths for construction.
1870: Louis Pasteur developed vaccines that treated many common diseases.
1876 Alexander Graham Bell patents the telephone which significantly changes how people communicate.
1879: Thomas Edison invented the light bulb that lasted longer than all the other designs. His invention allowed people to do things at night.
1883: The construction of the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City is finished after 13 years. During that time period, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world.
1903: Orville Wright and Wilbur Wright made the first airplane that doesn't use the wind to fly.
1908: Henry Ford invented a car called the model T which allowed more people to buy cars.
