Late Adulthood Begins
Physical Development: Skin begins to loosen. At this age, most seniors have their skin lose its so called elasticity. It is no longer as strong and "bouncy" as it once was. This is completely normal and unfortunately, it is almost impossible to prevent the continued decline of skin strength.
Physical Development Hearing and Vision continue to decline. The senses that we cherish so much begin to not function as well as they use to. My eyesight is already bad to begin with and this decline is not looking so nice. I need heavily persribed glasses and I need people to say things more than once due to this decline in hearing as well. The senses go through a detrimental decline as this age.
Cognitive Development The brain begins to lose its ability to remember things well. Short term memory becomes an issue and this is due to the decrease in the speed of encoding, storage, and retrieval of memory. I am frustrated that it is harder to remember things and I keep a journal to jot down ideas before I forget and it helps out greatly.
Cognitive Development I sadly develop NeuroCognitive disorder which is also referred to as dementia. This is only a broad category where there is a long term decrease in the ability to think and remember. I do daily exercise which surprisingly helps improve this quality of life. It is saddening to see the brain go through such toughness in this phase of life. Things don't work as well as it use to.
Socio-Emotional At this age, I am more dependent on others to help me with my daily tasks. I struggle with the feeling of guilt and shame of being dependent of others. I feel like a burden and it saddens me that I can't take care of myself. I am infuriated.
Socio-Emotional Development According to Erikson, this stage in life is marked by the crisis of integrity vs despair. Because I did good to the world, I feel integrity while others who weren't so well may struggle with despair. I am glad I did my part to play a positive role in society. Those go through the despair phase have a hard time accepting their mistakes throughout their life.
Death-Life Alert malfunctioned as I fell in the bathtub and the water continued to overflowed and I couldn't breathe. Mr. Stark I don't feel so good... Date July 7, 2077 07/07/77
Non-Normative Instead of going to a retirement living facility, I go stay in my home. I refuse to live in these treacherous facility and I want to die in the house that I built. Many of my friends go to a retirement shelter for assistance but I refuse. I do not want a normal final chapter in life.
