Factories began to lay off workers again. Critics would blame FDR, because of all his programs. Many in his administration were worried that the national debt was too high, so they urged Roosevelt to cut various programs. One that would be scaled back would be the WPA. This put many of its workers out of work. Others would also be impacted, because every salary that was earned would now have a deduction that would be put into the S.S. fund. Americans were angry due to the fact that they thought that money should've been put into providing goods and services.
