After being fed up with the mild tactics of the National American Woman Suffrage Association, led by Carrie Chapman Catt, Alice Paul decided to break away and form her own organization called the National Woman’s Party. The NWP used tactics that were more loud and noticeable such as lobbying, petitioning, picketing, demonstration and many were even arrested/imprisoned. This is important because they used very innovative tactics and went straight for a national approach instead of going state by state. Alice Paul and the NWP organized the “Silent Sentinels” march to receive more attention for their cause.
