Maurice was the Premier in Quebec in 1944-1959. The Duplessis government misused the money from the federal government. They falsely certified thousands of children living in the orphanages as mentally ill and moved into insane asylums. That way the federal goverment will fund them. For many Quebecois, the Duplessis era is known as the Great Darkness.
