A canal in New York that is part of the east–west, cross-state route of the New York State Canal System, originally running 363 miles from Albany, on the Hudson River, to Buffalo, at Lake Erie. This was significant to sectionalism because it caused many people to move to New York and other areas around the canal, easing sectionalism.
