At the beginning of the 1900's, Gregor Mendel's principles began to be widely accepted, although it was after his death.
His research consisted of work with the pea plant and showed that inheritance involves the passing of genes from parents to offspring.
Additionally, his principles suggested that genes of different chromosomes will be inherited independently of each other, and that separation of traits occurs due to the process of meiosis.
