The Declaration of Independence declared that the colonies (who were currently at war with Great Britain) were now going to act and become, an independent entity separate from their mother country. This declaration began the United States on its course towards becoming one of the greatest countries in the world and towards an expansion from the east coast all the way to the west coast and Alaska.
