The invention of the microwave was an accident and was invented after WWII when Percy Spencer realized that radar transmitters produced waves that could heat up food. Spencer of Raytheon Companies first patented the microwave on October 8, 1945. First named the Radarange, the microwave was open to be sold to the public in 1946. The microwave used polar molecules in food, such as water, to circulate and bounce around to create thermal energy through a series of microwaves.
