different authoritarian regimes start at different point in 5 arenas, which in turn affects their democratization process: 1) development of free and lively civil society; 2) relatively autonomous and valued political society; 3) rule of law; 4) state bureaucracy usable by new government; 5) institutionalized economic society.
economic aspects are not as important as presented so far. they might affect, but they are not the ultimate reasosn for change and outcomes.
