Written in 1637, The Discourse on the Method of Rightly Conducting One’s Reasoning and of Seeking the Truth in Sciences, or simply The Discourse on the Method, was a book by Rene Descartes. It was originally written in French, and was a philosophical and autobiographical treatise. It is considered as one of the most influential philosophical works, as it gave us the famous quotation, “I think, therefore I am”. It was also a very important development in the field of natural sciences. In this book, Descartes discusses skepticism, doubt, and truth, among many other topics. It was important because of the impact it made on the philosophical world, and also helped to spread ideas and literacy throughout Europe.
