This came through a civil war in cordoba. The Christians took Castile in centre spain, this became the fastest growing Christian Kingdom. They also captured Toledo. the Almoravid dynasty (Muslim) captured back some land, then the Christians under Alfonso VIII crushed the muslims in 1212. Over the next several centuries popes gave Christian warriors the same spiritual benefits as the crusaders. in 1236 the Christians captured the great city of córdoba. The Christians kept pushing out Muslim forces and in the 14th century this was called reconquista
