Saint Augustine of Hippo (aug 19, 354 – oct 2, 430)
Description:
Born into a family in which his father was pagan and his mother was devout Christian. Led a normal life untill he got interested in a new religious idea, Manichaean. He first took position in rome in which he had frequent conversations with Ambrose, through this he became Christian. He then returned to Africa and became bishop of the Seacoast city Hippo Regis. He was a defender of orthodox Christianity and author of 93 books and treaties, Augustines auto-biography 'the confession' is a literary masterpiece and one of the most influental books in the history of Europe. In this he rejected the idea that people do not always act on rational knowledge. His ideas on sin, grace and redempion became the foundation for all western theology. He concluded that adam commited the original sin and with this tainted all of humanity. Evil ,that is inside everyone is transferred through sexual intercourse.
