FRENCH REVOLUTION (feb 1, 1789 – jan 1, 1799)

Description:

- The French countryside was full of beggars (as was any European countryside)
- aristocrats got ever richer
- the middle class paid nearly all the taxes
- there was a meeting held by the three estates, but the third estate (the ordinary people) argued that their cause was never going to be represented because it would be outvoted by the clergy and middle class (other TWO votes)
