Second Anglo-Powhatan War (mar 22, 1622 – sep 30, 1632)
Description:
A second conflict between the Powhatan Confederacy and the Virginia colonists. It began with a force of Powhatan led by Opechancanough launching a surprise attack against the colonists to drive them out of Virginia, in an event known as the Indian Massacre of 1622. The colonists retaliated in the summer of 1622, being aided by Accomac and Patawomeck tribes. The English attacked both the Powhatan and their allies. In 1623 a peace deal was arranged, but the Powhatan were betrayed by the colonists, who poisoned and ambushed them as revenge for the 1622 massacre. After a minor battle in 1624, the colonists were forced to suspend their attacks. They continued in 1627, then from 1629 to the end of the war. A peace deal was finally arranged in 1632, allowing the colonists to continue expanding and barricading their territories.
