Verdi was a famous Italian opera composer. His name came to have the meaning "Vittorio Emanuele Re d'Italia" in the Italian revolution movement to gain independence from Austria. He believed in emphasising national pride through his art. He wrote the opera Nabucco, the story of Jewish exile from their homeland. This work was meant to highlight the similarities between the plight of the Jewish people and the plight of Italy.
