FALL AND DECLINE OF ALMORAVIDS (jan 1, 1143 – jan 1, 1147)

Description:

After Ali ibn Yusuf died, he was succeeded by his son, Tashin ibn Ali, he was one of the most courageous man and the best statman among Almoravids kings. But unluckly too, in the Almohads revolution under the leadership of Abd Al Mu’min bin Ali, had reached dangerous proportion by his time Abd al Mu’min raids the area between Fez and Tlemcen. Tashfin had built a stronghold near Oran, using it as his headquarter to combat Abd al Mu;min. but the Almohad besieged this, and in an attempt to escape when the siege become crtical. However, Tashfin fall with his horse from the top of fortress and was found below dead by the besiegers in 1145. Tashin’s son Ibrahim succeeded him, but his paternal uncle, Ishaq opposed the succession, and this strife heralded the fall of empire. In 1146 Abd al Mu’min besieged Marrakesh with Ibrahim ibn Tashfin inside, and when he had stormed the city, captured the last of Almoravid prince and slew him forthwith. Thus ended this state which had begun so powerfully, had raised the banner of jihad for the sake of Islam. Then collapsed suddenly while still in its growth.
The fall of Marrakesh which was the administration capital of Almoravids dynasty to the Almohad automatically weakened the entire dynasty. However, we should be thankful to the Almoravids because if there is no Almoravids the beautiful city of Marrakesh will never exist until now.
