'Second Great Awakening': many slaves convert to Christianity (1795) (sep 29, 1795 – jul 29, 1820)

Description:

"During a period of religious revivalism known as the 'Second Great Awakening,' slaves convert to Christianity in large number for the first time.

Large, strong African-American Baptist congregations were established in the South, while discrimination from church leaders led to the formation of the independent African Methodist Episcopal (AME) and AME Zion churches in the north."
