The Reichstag (jan 1, 1664 – jan 1, 1806)

Description:

From 1664 to 1806, the Reichstag was a permanent meeting in Regensburg where representatives from all the states of the Holy Roman Empire gathered.

In theory it was the Empire’s main political body, but in practice it was slow, tangled, and weighed down by a huge, clumsy bureaucracy.

Every decision required agreement from multiple groups, so almost nothing happened quickly.

While the Reichstag debated endlessly, stronger and more modern states like Prussia and Austria moved ahead, leaving the old imperial system looking outdated until it finally collapsed in 1806.
