The Princes’ Revolt and the Road to the Peace of Augsburg (1552–1555) (jan 1, 1552 – jan 1, 1555)
Description:
In 1552, the Lutheran princes revolted against Emperor Charles V because he was trying to force them back into the Catholic Church and limit their power.
Led by Maurice of Saxony, they launched a surprise attack that forced Charles to flee and broke his control over the empire.
This revolt pushed him to accept the Peace of Augsburg in 1555, which let each prince choose either Lutheranism or Catholicism for their lands.
