Description:

Cause:
-The North was growing rapidly and they held the majority of the house
-Slavery was already established in Missouri,and it alarmed the North
-Clay's proposal: Henry Clay won majority to admit Missouri as a slave state and Maine as a free state

Effect:
-Sectional Feelings over slaver subsided after 1820
-Sectional balance for more then 30 years
-Americans torn between feelings of nationalism and sectionalism
