Cause:
-U.S wanted land for westward expansion and settlers relied on the Mississippi river, New Orleans and Indian territory for trade
-Napoleon gave up the plant to build the French empire and abanded plan due:
-Money for Napoleonic war
- Haitian Revolution
Effect:
-Doubled U.S size
-Removed European Presence from Borders
-Increased popularity with Jefferson with Agrarian Farmers, but some question his Federalist Ideals
-Encourage Westward expansion
- Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1804 to 1806, from st Louis to Oregon
