Battle of Kursk (jun 5, 1943 – aug 23, 1943)
Description:
The battle of Kursk was an unsuccessful assault made by the Germans on the Soviet salient. The salient was a bulge in the Soviet front line of defence and it stretched a few miles and crossed over into the German line. The Germans tried to recover the land that was taken by planning a surprise attack on the south and north sides of the salient in hopes of surrounding and destroying the Soviet front line of defence. unfortunately for the Germans, Soviet had already assumed the Germans plan of attack and withdrew their men from the position attack.
When the Germans launched their attack they were faced with anti-tank defences and minefields this making it hard for the Germans to proceed with he attack and move forward.
The Battle of Kursk was one of the largest tank battles in history.
