Slavery Sanctions (jan 13, 1660 – dec 5, 1663)

Description:

King Charles of England sanctions the Council of Foreign Plantations to develop ways for turning the slaves to Christians. The same period also witnessed myriad legal changes in other regions. In 1662, for instance, Virginia passed a law that stated that the status of children born by black mothers would be determined by their mother’s condition. Additionally, Maryland legalized the trade in 1663. In 1664, New York and New Jersey also legalize the practice, with others such as New York, the Carolinas, and Maryland establishing laws that mandate all black slaves to a life of servitude (Gobel, 2014).
