Description:
Longest battle in WWI.
The town of Verdun had been saved by German occupation in the Battle of the Frontiers in 1914. General von Falkenhayn, German Chief of Staff, decided to attack Verdun (which has since become a symbol of nation pride to the French people). Casualties amounted over 400,000 German and 540,000 French.
