Description:

The release of "Computer Space" in 1971 kickstarted the commercial games industry. Video games began to proliferate in arcades, alongside mechanical games.
The industry really picked up with the advent of microprocessors in 1976, which allowed games to be loaded on cartridges. This led to a rise in third-party developers, distinct from the platform-holders.
