AIM occupies Alcatraz (nov 20, 1969 – dec 30, 1969)
Description:
89 American Indians who call themselves IOAT (Indians of all Tribes) began to try and occupy Alcatraz to protest a treaty that was violated. A coast guard blockade prevented all but 14 from getting on the island, but up to 400 people ended up being part of the protest.
