Battle of Stalingrad (aug 22, 1942 – feb 2, 1943)
Description:
After Hitler's unsuccessful attacks on Moscow and Leningrad, Hitler sent his troops toward southern Russia and decided to go after Stalingrad. The USSR was and had been in the midst of some awful winters, which along with the Soviet resistance prevented Hitler from gaining more territory. It in fact was the first (but not the last) territorial loss of the Nazis.
