Russian Flu (jan 1, 1889 – jan 1, 1890)

Description:

The Russian Flu was an outbreak of influenza that was discovered in May, 1889, in Asia, Canada, and Greenland. Due to rapid population growth, the outbreak, who's strain was that of the H2N2 virus, spread to the rest of the world and killed over one million people. Those who contracted the disease dealt with the buildup and expulsion of mucus and a very high fever. It was transmitted from person-to-person through the air by things such as coughing or sneezing. It was the first epidemic in the era of bacteriology.
