The Great Schism (Middle Ages) (jan 1, 1377 – jan 1, 1418)
Description:
Europe had three different popes at one time because France and Italy could not decide between themselves who should be Pope. This issue was finally resolved when Martin V was elected as the single Pope by the Council of Constance (back by the Holy Roman Emperor) between 1414-1418.
