Battle of Petersburg (jun 9, 1864 – mar 25, 1865)

Description:

On June 9, 1864 a series of battles started in Richmond and Peterson, Virginia. Grant starting to march from the battle of cold harbor on the way to Petersburg. His plan was to go to Petersburg, Virginia before Richmond because Lee would have to defend Richmond. On June 15 they reached Petersburg and started to take over. Everyday they would defeat a line of defense and get closer to capturing. At the end the Union claimed victory by fully capturing Petersburg, Virginia on March 25, 1865. Because of this battle, the tenches created to hide from attacks were used greatly in World War Two.
