Nullification Crisis (8h 40min, may 19, 1828 y – 10h 30min, mar 15, 1833 y)

Description:

A high protective tariff (or tax) was signed into law by the U.S. government. South Carolina, specifically John C. Calhoun strongly disagreed with the high tariffs ad felt that they targeted the south unfairly. South Carolina nullified the federal law, calling it unconstitutional until a "force bill" was threatened which would bring the national army into the sate to make sure the law was followed. A compromised took place. South Carolina would pay the tax if the US government lowered the tax. The US government would not send troops if South Carolina agreed to pay this lower tax.
