Apries (aka Hophra) Pharaoh of Egypt (feb 15, 589 BC – jun 15, 570 BC)

Description:

Apries (aka Hophra) ruled as Pharaoh of Egypt from February 589 BC to 570 BC. He was the son of pharaoh Psamtik II, and grandson of Necho II.

Apries dispatched a force to Jerusalem to protect it from Babylonian forces sent by Nebuchadnezzar II in 588 BC. His forces quickly withdrew, however, apparently avoiding a major confrontation with the Babylonians. This brief dispatch was the temporary reprieve to the Chaldean onslaught against Jerusalem that Jeremiah speaks of in Jeremiah 34:21, and 37:3-12.
