Clarence C. Love (jan 1, 1967 – jan 1, 1988)

Description:

Clarence C. Love was born on February 24, 1922, in Weir, Kansas. As a young man, he attended the Kansas State Teachers College at Pittsburg. He served in the army for two and a half years during World War II. Later, Love owned and operated a dry-cleaning business in Independence, Missouri.

He resided with his wife Travestine for many years in Quindaro of Kansas City, Kansas. As a faithful member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church located in Quindaro, Love would encourage young church members to attend college and get involved politically. He was also a member of the St. James Masonic Lodge and the Orient Consistory #19 Scottish Rite Masonry 33rd Degree.

In 1966, he was appointed to serve in the Kansas House of Representatives under the administration of Governor Robert Docking. Representative Love served as a democrat to the Wyandotte County 35th District for 22 years, the most extended term in Kansas House history, among other elected African American officials. He was well-known and respected, dedicated to speaking on issues that impacted the African American community, serving on several committees during his tenure.
