Rebuilding of Solomon's Temple (jan 1, 520 BC – jan 1, 502 BC)

Description:

Dates given refer to the period in which Tettenei is in administrative power as Governor of Trans-Euphrates.

Tettenei is the local ruler of the Jerusalem area of the Persian empire from roughly 520-502BC. A cuneiform tablet bearing his name and title exists and can be dated to June 5th 502BC exactly.

Ezra 5 describes the important role played by 'Tettenei, Governor of Trans-Euphrates' in ensuring that the Temple was rebuilt.

The jewish people struggled to get the rebuild started following objections by Babylonians who had settled in the area during the Israelite exile.

Having been told by the Jewish people that Cyrus had given them permission to build, Tettenei wrote to Darius I to ask him to search the archives for the decree from Cyrus. Darius found a reference to the decree and allowed the rebuilding to resume.
