Roman Republic (jan 1, 509 BC – nov 15, 27 BC)

Description:

People north of the Alps move into Italy and settle by the River Tiber. People from central Italy take over the neighboring lands and make fi ne cities. They are skilled metalworkers and busy traders and also know how to drain land for growing corn. The people of Rome rise against their harsh king, Tarquin the Proud, and set up a “public state” called a republic.

The Roman army, with its welltrained troops, sweeps through a great part of the known world. Romans are most effi cient rulers, buildings towns and cities and thousands of miles of excellent roads. With the help of Greek mathematicians and engineers, great builders of Rome construct tunnels, aqueducts, public buildings, bridges and canals throughout the empire. They introduce laws, a disciplined way of life, and new farming methods.
