Development of Zoroastrianism Zoroaster traveled teaching about the nature of humanity and the responsibilities of human beings his teachings became Zoroastrianism. Zoroastrianism was one of the first religions. Zoroastrianism was one of the first theological systems to emphasize Order and Justice.
Arrival of Islam Islam arrived when the Arabs conquered Iran between 637 and 651 CE. Islam appealed to many Iranians who resented Sassanian rule. Islam had many of the same ideas as Zoroastrianism.
Tobacco Protest In 1980 the shah let the British have exlucive access to produce, sell, and export tobacco for 1.7M in todays dollars. The Iranian people were unhappy and protested this deal. There were two different factions participating, the intelectualls and the ulama.
D’Arcy oil concession In exchange for 16% of the revenue, The majority of Iran's oil rights were given by the shah to an Englishman by the name of William D'Arcy. The following years saw the discovery of significant amounts of oil, and lead to the British buying most of the company.
The 1917 Russian Revolution The 1917 Russian Revolution caused the Russian military to leave Iran's north. The dominant foreign power in Iran at that point was Britain. Iranian oil had fueled the British fleet during World War I. Iran acted as a barrier between now-socialist Russia and the West.
Periods
Achaemenian Empire The Achaemenian Empire founded by Cyrus in 559 B.C founded through a series of wars. Ended in 331 B.C with the invasion of Alexander the Great. The empire was the largest the world had ever seen and developed an early postal system.
Sassanian Dynasty The Sassanian Empire founded by Ardeshir by consolidation the warring tribes was a powerful Persian dynasty that consolidated Zoroastrianism as the state religion and is known for its achievements in art, architecture, and literature.
Safavid Dynasty The Safavid Dynasty was a highly organized government that lasted more than 200 years it was founded when Isma‘il the founder convinced manyvtribes that he was a descendant of Imam Ali. Shi‘ism was the mandatory religion of the Dynasty Started a schooling system to educate Theologins.
Qajar Dynasty The Qajar dynasty was established by Agha Mohammad Khan, the leader of the Qajar tribe in northeastern Iran. Life was hierarchical and corrupt in Qajar Iran. There was no defense against exploitation and land appropriation for peasants and the lower classes.
Protests against the shah erupted in 1905. Years of poor management and corruption, as well as concessions lead to Resentment erupting over the presence of foreigners and a string of droughts and food shortages. One of the first tasks of the Majlis was to write a constitution. In 1906, Iran’s first elections for the parliament were held.
