Democritus: A greek Philosopher who was the first person to have the idea that matter is made up of tiny individual particles called atoms. He was born in Abdera, Thrace.
Dalton: He was born in Eaglesfield, Cumbria, United Kingdom. He came up with the hard sphere model or in other word the cannonball model. His model had no internal structure,
Ernest Rutherford: He lived in Brightwater, New Zealand. The empty space model was created by him. The experiment he performed was called the gold foil experiment. In this experiment he used Radium as the source of the alpha particles. He shot at a thin gold foil which was like aluminum but made out of gold. He observed the impact of the alpha particles. With this experiment he found out that the nucleus is a small dense and positive and the electrons revolve around the nucleus.
J. J. Thomson: He lived in Cheetham Hill, Manchester, United Kingdom. He came up with the plum pudding model. The experiment he did for this was the Cathode Ray Experiment. In this experiment A tube with a medal was setup to trace a beam from an electrical source. If an anode happened the medal disk was positive if it was a cathode a medal disk was negative. The beam deflected and attracted the positive plate and it repelled a negative plate. This experiment showed that electrons and protons disp
Millikan: He lived in Morrison, IL. Millikan did a experiment that oil droplets was sprayed to the chamber. Some of the oil droplets fell through a pinhole between the two plates of the electrical field. Millikan used a microscope to observe . Droplets captured some electrons and droplets caught no electrons. This concluded that the mass of an electron is 1000 times smaller than the lightest atom.
Chadwick: He lived in Bollington, United Kingdom. The design of this experiment was that a sample of Be was bombard with alpha particles. This caused a radiation which he though the radiation was neutral because it defelcted by electrical fields. He came witha conclusion that neutrons and protons have the same mass. Also that protons and neutrons are locate in the nucleus. This made the atoms have a higher elements.
Einstein: He lived in Ulm, Germany. He talked about the electromagnetic radiation. He thought it was made up of Photons.
Bohr: He lived in Copenhagen, Denmark. His model showed how electrons orbit the nucleus in orbits that represent specific quantities of energy
De Broglie: He lived in Dieppe, France. He made an equation which was wavelength= h/p. This means that electrons behave like aves on a vibrating string than like particles.
Schrodinger: He lived in Vienna, Austria. He developed the equation of quantum mechanics. His model shows how an electron can be found in a given region of space at a given time.
Heisenberg: He lived in Wurzburg, Germany. he found out that it is impossible to know the position and the velocity of an electron at the same time. This was known as the uncertain principle.
