Events
puberty begins Most boys begin varying from 11-13 years old
Physical Development 12-16 years Sleep Schedule is naturally shifted to a later time. At this age, it is difficult to stay awake early in the morning and as a result, it is harder to sleep at the "usual" sleeping times back as a child. This is absolutly normal and many adolescence struggle with this sleeping dilemma.
Physical Development Change in body composition. Around this time, my body starts to grow differently and as a result, my body responds differently as well. For most boys, the muscle to fat to ratio is approximately 3:1. For females, it is more closer to a 5:4 ratio.
Physical Development This did not involve me but my childhood friend goes through anoerexia. Anoerexia is quite common at this time. This happens to 1 percent of women and it is quite common at this time. I was concern for her health and it was apparent that she was trying to seek approval from the peers. She eventually got past this phase but i remember how surreal the entire experience was.
Cognitive Development Imaginary Audience- I remeber slipping in the hallways my freshmen year and I was beyond embarassed. I could have sworn that EVERYONE say what went down While it was a lot of people, teens normally at this age beleive that an imaginary audience is always watching them and that they are always there to point out my mistakes
Cognitive Development Personal Fable While it is true that other people have been through what I am going through, the effect of persojnal fable means that I believe that I am unique and no one else has ever encountered what I am going through. This was when I chose to end playing basketball competitivelty and I knew that it was going to be hard to drop what became a part of me at that time. I could of sworn no else has encountered this but obviouslty this isn't true.
Socio-Emotional Development I decide to take more risk at this age. The TED talk that goes into detail about the adolescent brain brings the idea of the Limbic system. The Limbic system is described as finding joy from taking risk. During the period of adolescence, the Limbic System is hypersensitive to risk taking. This is the primary catalyst for doing more wild events as a teenager. I almost jumped out of a speeding car. Don't ask why.
Socio-Emotional BIckering As petty as it sounds, the amount of bickering at this time in my adolescent was at an all time high. I would normally bicker towards my parents but this is nothing unusual. Bickering normally involves repeatedly complaining about petty issues and most of it is a little bit useless looking back on it. My adolescence have a spike in bickering at this time and so many others.
Non Normative While society ranks males to be better than females in math and science, I actually thought otherwise. While, I was not bad myself, there was a girl in my class that was always superior to my abilities to math and science and I thought the females ran the "food chain" in science. This only motivated to work harder in this field.
