Timeline of Ecocide & The Anthropocene Extinction, 1900-2025

Ecocide (Ancient Greek: oikos ("home") and Latin: caedere ("to kill"): “unlawful or wanton acts committed with knowledge that there is a substantial likelihood of severe and either widespread or long-term damage to the environment being caused by those acts”. Currently, ecocide is a crime in 11 countries – including Russia and Ukraine – and it is being considered in another 27 countries, according to Thomson Reuters Foundation.
